At the start of 2020, I set myself three goals.

The first two I’m on course to achieve, but the third was to run my first ever marathon and in a time under 3 hours and 30 minutes – which, as it stands, hasn’t happened.

I signed up for the Rotterdam Marathon in April, but – as you can guess – this was cancelled due to the pandemic.

It then got rearranged for October… but the same thing happened again.

So, on 1st December – with 31 days left of 2020 and me about 6 kilos heavier than usual – I decided to have one last shot of hitting my marathon goal.

Nothing in my goal said I had to run at a big public marathon event.

I just need to run 26.2 miles in under 3 hours 30 minutes before the year is over…

Can I do it? Probably not.

Why?

  • I’ve never run even a half marathon
  • I have a really bad injury record
  • I’m completely unfit going into this

It might not be possible. But I wanna try.

Anyway, via this blog and on YouTube, I’m going to document my challenge and see if I can make it.

And, if you’re stupid as me me, feel free to join me in attempting the 30-day marathon challenge too.
